Getting cash in exchange for a store gift card
If you have a store gift card, you will likely be able to exchange it for cash, provided it is a closed-loop card - which means it can only be used at a certain store. The easiest way to do this is by selling your gift card to a reseller.

Getting cash in exchange for a Visa® gift card
Wondering if you trade your Visa® gift card for cash? The short answer is no. Keep in mind that a Visa® gift card is not the same as a Visa® reloadable prepaid card - both types of plastic may seem similar but only the prepaid card can be used to get cash back from merchants and withdraw cash from ATMs. This means you can’t get cash off your Visa® gift card. Reading the terms and conditions that are printed on the back of your gift card will give you more clarity regarding this.
Can I buy an item with my gift card and return it to the store to get cash?
This is a question that many people have. Whether you can do this or not really depends on the merchant’s terms and conditions and the sophistication of their post-of-sale system. Many stores refund money back to the same card that the customer used to make the payment. Some stores, however, may give you a cash refund when you make you return your item.
